Bedford,TX : A 21-year-old New Bedford woman was identified as the fatal victim in I-195 crash on may, Friday 19th 2017

A 21-year-old New Bedford woman was identified as the fatal victim in Thursday’s Interstate 195 crash that also seriously injured two others, state police said.

Stephanie Merejildo was the passenger in the silver 1998 Honda Civic that swerved off the highway into the soft shoulder before crashing into a tree on the eastbound side of I-195, according to state police. She was pronounced deceased on the scene.The female driver and the child in the car remain hospitalized at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I., state police said. The driver was transported by medical helicopter for life-threatening injuries. State police have not released their names.

Early investigations said speed was a possible contributing factor and state police are also looking into whether the occupants were wearing seat belts, they said.
