Spencer,IA :Lake Park man dies 9 days after collision on December, Tuesday 26th 2017

Marlyn D. Van Tol, 59, of Lake Park, passed away Dec. 20 at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, nine days after being hit along the side of U.S. Highway 18 near the intersection of 300th Avenue, east of Spencer on Dec. 11.

Van Tol was a pedestrian outside his vehicle, a 2010 International semitrailer, which was parked on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 18 at the time of the crash.

Jeffery R. Cadwell, 33, of Ayrshire, was operating a 2015 Ford F-250 pickup towing a tandem axle car trailer eastbound on Highway 18 approaching the Van Tol vehicle. The Cadwell vehicle crossed the fog line and struck both Van Tol and his vehicle while it was parked on the shoulder.

Van Tol sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to the Spencer Municipal Hospital. He was later air lifted to Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
