CARBONDALE, IL : Carbondale Police investigating fatal hit-and-run traffic incident involving pedestrian on Saturday, 1st June 2024

The Carbondale Police Department is actively searching for the suspect of a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian on Friday night.

According to the police dept., 36-year-old Jeremy L. Shered of Carbondale has been identified as the driver of the vehicle that struck a pedestrian and drove away.

Police have requested an arrest warrant for Shered from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office for failure to report a traffic crash involving death or serious injury and driving while license revoked.

The pedestrian who died in this crash was identified as 68-year-old Michael D. Welling of Carbondale. Police say Welling’s family has been notified.
