SHERMAN OAKS, CA : Motorcyclist ID’d following fatal Sherman Oaks crash with Uber driver on Sunday, March 12th 2017
A motorcycle driver from Anaheim was killed Sunday morning following a three-car collision in Sherman Oaks that involved an Uber driver, authorities said.
The 23-year-old man, who was later identified as David S. Harrison, was declared dead at the scene following the 10:18 a.m. collision on the northbound 405 Freeway south of Burbank Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Harrison was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on the freeway in the No. 4 lane at about 50 miles per hour when a woman in a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, who was operating under the Uber Transportation Network, was stopped in the No. 5 lane directly ahead of the motorcycle, the CHP said in a news release.
Harrison attempted to pass traffic on his motorcycle by changing lanes into the No. 5 lane and collided into the right rear of the Sonata. Harrison then continued toward the right shoulder and crashed into the guardrail, where he was ejected from the motorcycle, according to the CHP.
It was not immediately clear if the Sonata was stopped due to heavy traffic or because of another reason.
Following that collision, the Sonata was then propelled forward and collided with a 2010 Toyota Prius.
The Sonata driver and her passenger sustained “minor complaint of pain injuries” and were treated and released at the scene, officials said.
All three vehicles involved were taken and placed on an evidence hold for further investigation, the CHP said.
