Statesville, NC : Statesville police investigate fatal crash near Mitchell on Sunday, October, 15th 2017

The Statesville Police Department is investigating after a crash involving a scooter apparently left one person dead Sunday afternoon near Mitchell Community College.
Police at the crash site, near the intersection of West End Avenue and Kelly Street, did not answer questions. Chief Joseph Barone said the wreck involved a scooter and one other vehicle.
A body lay in the road near the wrecked scooter afterward. It was covered by a sheet, and the intersection was taped off, blocking traffic.
The crash was reported at 3:48 p.m.
