Los Angeles, CA : Two people die after vehicle crash on Sierra Highway near Mint Canyon Road on Thursday morning, Nov 26, 2015

Two elderly people from Saugus whose vehicle flipped and caught fire Thursday morning on Sierra Highway in Agua Dulce died as a result of injuries suffered during the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An 84-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman were travelling southbound on Sierra Highway near Mint Canyon Road shortly before 7:30 a.m. Thursday when the male driver lost control of the 2006 Honda and crashed into a “concrete drainage culvert,” according to a CHP statement.

The vehicle then overturned and caught on fire.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after the crash and found the vehicle off the road.

“Two people were pronounced dead at the scene,” said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Bernard Peters.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is in the process of notifying next of kin. The victims were reportedly from Saugus, according to a CHP statement.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
