Knoxville, TN : Minivan driver involved in school bus collision on Wednesday afternoon, February 1, 2017
A minivan rear-ended a school bus with 12 children and an adult bus monitor on board Wednesday afternoon but resulted in no injuries, according to police.
The school bus was transporting Holston Middle School students to the Boys and Girls Club around 4 p.m. at the time of the collision.
The bus is owned by Rudder Bus Lines and has a contract with Knox County Schools, according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
Russ Oaks, chief operating officer for Knox County Schools, said the bus was not operating on the district's behalf at the time of the accident.
The minivan rear-ended the bus while it was stopped at the red light at the intersection of North Central Street and Bernard Avenue, said DeBusk.
Driven by 38-year-old Richard Westfield of Knoxville, the Chrysler Town & Country minivan was carrying three children, who were all in car seats, he said.
No one in the minivan was injured. The front of it was damaged, and it was towed away.
Westfield was cited for driving without a license, driving without insurance and following too closely, DeBusk said.
