Charlotte County, FL : Five people injured after a four-vehicle collision on State Road 776 in Port Charlotte on Monday, December 14, 2015
A four-vehicle collision injuring five people in Port Charlotte required the response of Charlotte County Fire and EMS just after 4 p.m. on Monday, according to authorities.
It happened at the intersection of State Road 776 and Como Street.
Eastbound SR 776 was closed from Flamingo Blvd. to Como St. for a few hours after the crash, but is now open, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Emergency workers arrived at the scene and found three sedans and one SUV. In one of the sedans, two people were trapped and needed extrication.
A total of 5 people were involved in the vehicle collision.
Traffic traveling on State Road 776 heading from Englewood into the Port Charlotte area experienced traffic backup with two of the lanes closed. Charlotte County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control. Westbound is now clear.
One person, an elderly woman, was taken by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital while another trauma patient was taken by ground to a local facility. Other patients were all in stable condition.
Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting an investigation for the cause of this four-vehicle collision.
