A wayward moose crossing Route 9 caused a three-vehicle crash overnight that sent one driver to a hospital, police said.
Kevin B. Williams, 35, of 222 Oak St., Shrewsbury, struck the animal in a westbound lane while driving a 2008 Subaru, according to the Westboro Police Department, which was called to the scene about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
Then a 2013 Mack truck driven by Gerald L. Pierdolla, 48, of 555 Summer Place, Blackstone, hit the moose.
Laura Bermeo-Ortega, 40, of 12 Overlook Ave., Shrewsbury, who was driving a 2001 Mazda behind the truck, also struck the moose.
Mr. Williams was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. All three vehicles were towed. State officials removed the dead moose.
