Three juveniles, who crashed a stolen white Honda CRV after eluding police on Tuesday, were arrested for a string of car-jackings stemming back to Sept. 18.
According to Portland Police, an officer attempted to pull over the stolen car, but the juveniles didn’t stop. They evaded police until they crashed near the on-ramp to I-205 north and I-84 west. No one was injured in the crash.
The three minors were lodged at the Juvenile Detention Home on multiple charges including second-degree robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The suspects are believed to be connected to 5 other robberies in the area. The first incident, on Sept. 18 at SW 4th and Yamhill involved a woman being injured when her phone was stolen. On Sept. 24 at North Killingsworth and North Commercial Street, a woman was injured during the robbery of her car keys.
The first car theft was on Sept. 28, when the police said a Ford Focus was stolen from the 4200 block of SW 82nd Avenue. The car was found on October 2 heavily damaged. On Sept. 29, another car was stolen from the 1200 block of NE 102nd Avenue. The Honda CRV was found when the suspects crashed during the suspects’ attempt to elude police on October 3.
On Oct. 2 in the 4200 block of SW 82nd Avenue, another woman’s car was stolen. It was found unoccupied on October 3.
All the robbery victims were adult women who said the suspects used physical force to steal from them.
“The 3 suspects would strong arm people out of their vehicles,” Sgt. Chris Burley said.
Police said they will not release the information of the juveniles due to their ages. Police also said the investigation is ongoing and they’ll likely add more charges.
