Seguin, TX : 3 hospitalized after head-on crash on Friday, November, 3rd 2017
A head-on collision between a pick-up truck and a sports utility vehicle sent three Seguin residents to area hospitals early Friday evening.
The wreck was reported about 6:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of North State Highway 123 Bypass between Continental and Stremple Road when a Chevrolet pickup crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Dodge Durango, causing the truck to go airborne and land on its side, Seguin Police Officer Timothy Reinikka said.
“From what we can ascertain, there are skid marks in the southbound lane that say the truck for whatever reason slammed on his brakes to avoid something and swerved into the northbound lanes,” he said. “The couple in the Durango was heading northbound and were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Reinikka said as the truck began crossing into the northbound lanes, the driver of the SUV attempted to avoid colliding.
“It looks like the Durango saw it come and started going to the right,” he said. “It appears the SUV driver realized the truck was heading in that same direction and the Durango started to go left and took the brunt of the impact on the front passenger side of the SUV.”
The impact may have caused the truck to use the Durango as a ramp, go airborne and land on the driver’s side, Reinikka said.
The left front side of the SUV was crushed, pinning the female passenger inside the Durango. Seguin firefighters had to free her from the vehicle using extrication tools.
“All of them had what appeared to be non-life threatening but significant injuries,” Reinikka said.
The driver of the truck was flown by Methodist AirCare to a San Antonio hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV was taken by Seguin EMS to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment, while his female passenger was taken by New Braunfels EMS to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation. The names of the victims have not been released at this time.
