One person was killed and two were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Jefferson Road in Henrietta, near Ridgeland Road, just before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, one vehicle was headed west on Jefferson Road, and the other was heading east.

Helen Bennett, 76, of Meeting House Drive, Rochester, was driving eastbound on Jefferson Road and was stopped waiting to make a left turn onto Ridgeland Road. She was on her way to drop her daughter, Deborah Bennett, 49, also of Meeting House Drive, off for work. When the light turned yellow, Helen Bennett saw a car coming but thought it had slowed when she made a left turn. Her car was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by Christina Stewart, 40, of Mt. Airy Drive, Rochester.

Stewart confirmed in the police report that she was driving westbound on Jefferson Road approaching the intersection when the light turned yellow. She said that she had sufficient time to continue through the intersection when the other vehicle turned in front of her.

Deborah Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene. Helen Bennett was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with abdominal injuries. Stewart suffered a head injury and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

No tickets have been issued, and the sheriff's office continues to investigate the accident.

The area around Route 390, Jefferson Road and Ridgeland Road was shut down for several hours while the Monroe County Sheriff's Office investigated the cause of the accident; the roads have been reopened.
