Chesterton, IN : Woman badly injured in I-94 crash on Tuesday, 8th November 2016
A Highland woman was seriously injured on Tuesday in a three-vehicle accident on I-80/94 in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said.
According to police, at 12:50 p.m. Jessica Kiel, 21, was westbound on I-80/94 when she lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, slid across all four lanes of traffic, and hit a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Vincent Cornelius, 48, of Gary.
Cornelius’ pickup then left the roadway and struck the concrete median barrier, police said.
Kiel’s Aveo, meanwhile, spun back into the left middle lane, where it was broadsided by a semi-tractor trailer being operated by Chad Bennett, 43, of Monroe, Ga.
Kiel sustained serious head and internal injuries and was transported to Methodist Hospital Northlake Campus in Gary. She was subsequently airlifted to an unspecified Chicago-area trauma center.
Cornelius and Bennett escaped injury.
The crash remains under investigation, police said.
