A woman was trapped after a vehicle crashed into a Salisbury store Tuesday.

The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. at the Innes Street Drug store on South Main Street.

The vehicle, a silver Cadillac SUV being driven by 61-year-old Mary Archie, jumped the curb crashed into the store, ending up about 40 feet inside the building. The front of the store appeared to be completely destroyed.

Archie told police she thought her foot was on the brake. Witnesses say it appeared that instead of braking, Archie accelerated.

"Well I was standing here talking to a friend of mine," witness David Leach told WBTV, "I heard a car coming in like it was parking, so looked to the side and looked at it, and it jumped up on the sidewalk, and I seen it kept on going and I said 'what's going on' and it sped up through the store and I was surprised. It looked like it was in slow motion to me."

According to emergency officials, a customer, identified as 47-year-old Terry Cuthbertson, was trapped between store shelving and the SUV and had to be rescued. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast. Her condition not been released.

Archie and two passengers in the SUV were not injured.

Officials have not said if any charges are being filed.
