Sumter, SC : Clarendon crash kills Sumter boy on Sunday, March 5th 2017
A 12-year-old boy was killed and several people were seriously injured in a wreck on U.S. 15, two miles north of Summerton, on Sunday evening.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones, a 1997 Toyota driven by Randy Lewis, 32, traveling north on the highway was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet pickup driven by Charles Jones, 68. The collision caused the Toyota, which was carrying five passengers as well as the driver, to veer off the right side of the road where it struck a ditch. The Chevrolet pickup veered off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned several times, Jones said.
Rosheed Goodwin, 12, of Sumter, died approximately two hours after the incident, according to Clarendon County Coroner's Office.
Both drivers were flown to Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia with serious injuries. Two passengers in the Toyota were also flown to Palmetto Health Richland with serious injuries, while two others were transported to McLeod Health Clarendon in Manning.
