Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset Tuesday in honor of Navajo Nation police officer.
Officer Ernest Montoya, 54, died in a car crash Sunday while taking an arrested man to jail.
CBS 5 News confirmed that Montoya suffered a heart attack, which caused him to veer off the road.
Tribal spokesman Deswood Tome said Montoya had arrested a male suspect and was driving him back to the jail facility on the reservation in Dilkon when the crash happened.
Montoya had been with the Navajo Department of Public Safety since October 1993.
Brewer has ordered that flags also be lowered on the day of his interment. Those services are pending.
