Goldendale, WA : Semi crash spills fuel on U.S. 97 north of Goldendale on Tuesday morning, December 27, 2016
A semi truck driver escaped injury in a crash on U.S. Highway 97 north of Goldendale that spilled about 300 gallons of diesel Tuesday morning, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The crash was reported about 8:45 a.m. 16 miles north of Goldendale.
Troopers said Amar Mahmood, 36, of Live Oak, Calif., was southbound in the tractor-trailer combination when he lost control, crossed the northbound lane and left the roadway.
The tractor stopped off the road; the trailer blocked the road, according to a patrol news release.
Damage to the fuel tanks caused the diesel to spill, the news release said. The state Department of Ecology was notified.
Troopers blamed the crash on excessive speed and said Mahmood would be given a ticket for second-degree negligent driving.
He was wearing a seat belt and was not suspected of being intoxicated, the news release said.
