A boy was seriously injured after his mother drove drunk and then crashed her truck with him in the car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said Wendy Cauchi, 37, had her 8-year-old son riding in the bed of her pickup truck when she slammed through a fence on Southwest 80th Street in Ocala Thursday. The child suffered serious injuries to his head from the crash. He was transported to Monroe Regional Hospital. Investigators said Cauchi suffered an injury to her lip when she struck the steering wheel at the time of the crash. She refused to take an on-site sobriety test and demanded an attorney. Cauchi was charged with DUI, DUI with property damage, DUI with serious bodily injury and second refusal to submit to a DUI test after having her license suspended.
