Boston, MA : Two injured in I-495 crash in Bellingham on Tuesday, December, 19th 2017
Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries Tuesday afternoon after their car spun off Interstate 495 and into the woods, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
State Police spokesman David Procopio said that the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, a 22-year-old man from South Hadley, was traveling northbound at 1:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle. The car, Procopio said, then went through a wire fence on the shoulder of the highway and into a wooded area.
Both the driver and passenger - a 21-year-old woman - were taken to Milford Regional Medical Center for evaluation, he said.
According to Procopio, the cause of the crash is under investigation. The scene was cleared at about 3 p.m., he said.
Wayne Costigan, who was driving north on the highway, said it appeared a black SUV cut off the Aveo, leading to the crash. He and his friend stopped to help at the scene.
“They seemed pretty disoriented,” he said of the driver and passenger. “To be honest, when I first pulled over, I was thinking the worst... we went down there, and I couldn’t believe they missed all the big trees.”
Another crash took place slightly after the first, said Procopio - a 2004 Acura and a 2016 Mazda were involved in a minor collision at 1:44 p.m. He said one person - a passenger of one of the cars - was taken to MRMC with minor injuries.
