The man charged with felony DUI involving death after a mother of two who died in a fatal accident Friday was drunk after consuming alcohol at a company party, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.Derious Pahmas Sutton, 21, was given a $100,000 bond after Highway Patrol said he was at Twin Peaks on Thursday night for a company party, where he had six beers. Then he left that location and went on to Pour House, where troopers say he consumed additional alcohol.
At about 4:40 a.m. Friday, Highway Patrol said Sutton's car crossed the median on Highway 321 near the Lexington Industrial Park and struck 44-year-old Valerie Rhodes' vehicle head on. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Rhodes, of Gaston, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene from injuries she sustained in the accident.
Sutton was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries and was later arrested. Troopers said Sutton admitted to drinking and driving at the scene.
