Montgomery, AL : Alabama mother loses her children and ex-husband in deadly crash on Saturday, January 14th 2017
Neva Rogers from the Irvington area of Mobile County, described her children, Kristin Hires, 16, Kaleb Hires, 14, Alexander Hires, 12, and her ex-husband Kantrell Hires, 36, all from Mobile, as a family who did everything together, even martial arts.
"We did it as a family," said Rogers, 37. "We even did all the weapons, the kids too. We were all very active people."
The close relationship made their abrupt deaths hurt so bad.
All three of her children and her ex-husband were killed in a fatal car crash around 6:30 a.m. on Texas State Highway 158 on Saturday, Jan. 14. That is about six miles southeast of Midland, Texas.
Rogers said she was not notified of their deaths until 12 hours later.
"I didn't find out until six o'clock in the evening because the hospital had their bodies and nobody notified me," said Rogers.
She said that her children were living with their father, Kantrell Hires, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Kantrell had recently re-married and was helping his wife move her things from north Texas to his home in Portland, Texas.
He decided to take children with him that morning when they encountered a rainstorm near the Midland area.
