Tallahassee, FL : Burglary at Seminole County Target leads to fiery crash on Tuesday, December 27th 2016
A burglary at a Seminole County Target store early Tuesday ended in a fiery crash that left two people hospitalized, one in critical condition.Six people broke into the Target store at 4155 W. Lake Mary Blvd. at about 2:23 a.m., the Seminole County Sheriff's Office said.
When deputies arrived, they saw two vehicles leaving the parking lot: a maroon vehicle thought to have four burglary suspects, which sped off, and a black Toyota with two people inside.
Deputies tried to make a traffic stop on the black Toyota but it fled "in a reckless manner," so deputies disengaged and didn't pursue, the Sheriff's Office said.
Minutes later, dispatchers received a call about a crash on Alaqua Lakes Boulevard and Markham Woods Road, where the black Toyota that deputies were looking for had crashed into a tree and caught fire.
A deputy pulled one person from the passenger side, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The driver, who was hiding in nearby bushes, was spotted by a Sheriff's Office helicopter and taken into custody. That person was hospitalized in stable condition.
When they are medically cleared by doctors, the two people in the black Toyota will be booked into the Polk Correctional Facility in Sanford, deputies said.
The four other people thought to be in the maroon vehicle are still being sought.
"We're reviewing the surveillance video now as we speak to identify who they are and we're also hopeful that the driver we do have in custody is going to be able to provide us with some additional information on who they may be," Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Cannaday said at a news conference.
The burglary suspects got away with some electronics and did about $1,000 of damage to the actual store, officials said.
Anyone with information on this incident is urged to call CrimeLine at 1-800-423-TIPS or the Seminole County Sheriff's Office at 407-665-6650.
