OAKLAND, IL : Pedestrian killed in a Fatal accident in Oakland on April, Thursday 20th 2017
Charges have been filed against a driver whose vehicle allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian in Oakland.
The Coles County State's Attorney's Office has charged Danielle D. McConnell, 28, no address listed in the court file, with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, both felony offenses.
Both counts accuse McConnell of causing an accident that led to the death of Michael S. Hoskinson, 42, of Oakland while driving a Chevrolet Traverse on Feb. 26.
The Illinois State Police, which investigated the accident, reported that Hoskinson was found dead that morning at the accident scene -- the Danville Road at East Blevins Street. This intersection is on the northeast side of town, about a block west of the Oakland school district's campus.
One count alleges that McConnell did not stop and give information and aid as required. This offense can result in 1-3 years in prison or up to 2½ years of probation with a conviction.
The other count also includes the allegation that McConnell did not report the accident within 30 minutes of it taking place. That makes it a more serious offense, with a possible sentence of 4-15 years in prison or up to four years of probation.
Assistant State's Attorney Tom Bucher, who filed the case, said McConnell is aware of the charges, and indicated she would turn herself in and post bond.
Asked what led to McConnell being suspected as the driver, Bucher said pieces of the headlight from the vehicle involved were found at the accident scene and matched her vehicle.
Bucher also said McConnell tried to contact police about the accident about two to three days later, but she could not reach anyone. Bucher said he could not comment on what caused the accident.
