Chattanooga,TN : CPD officer headed to call involved in two-car crash on April, Sunday 9th 2017

A Chattanooga Police Department cruiser was involved in a two-car crash Sunday night that left four people with minor injuries, including the officer driving the patrol car.

Chattanooga police say CPD officer Christopher Day, 36, was driving the Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser that was headed north on Dodds Avenue to an "active call," according to a statement released this morning by the department.

Day had the cruiser's lights and siren operating and was attempting to pass a Ford Explorer driven by 59-year-old Eleanor Corbin and occupied by two juvenile passengers. Corbin also was northbound.

Day was trying to go around the left side of Corbin's Explorer as she attempted to make a left turn onto Curtis Street when the two collided, police said. Corbin didn't see the police car approaching from behind. Day's patrol car left the road after the collision.

Day, Corbin and both juveniles were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Chattanooga police department's Traffic Division is investigating the crash and will determine fault, officials said.

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
