Gilcrest, CO : Three people injured after two different vehicles collided on Highway 85 in Weld County on Thursday night, Sep 24, 2015
A car vs. pedestrian crash closed U.S. 85 in both directions in Gilcrest Thursday night.
At least three pedestrians were injured in the crash, which occurred about 7:45 p.m. on U.S. 85 near Weld County Road 31, said Cpl. Matt Turner, spokesman for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
Platteville police were still investigating the crash, but according to statements taken at the scene one pedestrian was struck by a car while trying to cross the highway. The driver remained at the scene.
After the initial collision, two people stopped to help and also were hit by a passing motorist. It was unclear if the second two people were passengers in the first car, nearby pedestrians or from another vehicle unrelated to the initial crash.
One person was taken by helicopter to North Colorado Medical Center. The two others also were taken to NCMC by ambulance. The extent of their injuries was not known as of 10:15 p.m.
As of 9 p.m., the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 85 remained closed in the vicinity of the crash. Gilcrest police joined officers from Platteville and deputies from the sheriff’s office to divert traffic to Railroad Street while authorities investigated the scene.
No other details were available late Thursday night.
