Norfolk, VA :I-64 reopened after accident and fuel leak at HRBT on Tuesday, July 14th 2015
The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel was closed to eastbound traffic after a vehicle accident caused fuel to leak onto the roadway.Around 1 p.m. Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. The crash involved a passenger vehicle and tractor-trailer.A Saturn Ion was traveling east through the tunnel when the driver lost control.The car ran off the left side and struck the wall, which caused the car to cross over the left lane and into the tractor-trailer traveling in the right lane. The impact ruptured the tractor-trailer's left fuel tank, causing a fuel leak.The driver of the Saturn, Jarita L. Wilson, 24, of South Chesterfield, Va., was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash. She was charged with reckless driving.The adult male driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.All lanes were reopened by around 3:15 p.m.
