Omaha, NE : Justin Chris Hart, 43, died after fatal hit-and-run motorcycle crash near 140th, Center on Wednesday night, August 31, 2016
Omaha police say Justin Chris Hart, 43, was the motorcyclist who died Wednesday night near 140th and West Center Road. Hart was wearing a DOT approved helmet, police say.
Police reports say Kevin Malone, 59, was the driver, of the Nissan, who fled the scene of the accident.
Malone faces six charges: leaving the scene of a personal injury crash which results in death, aggravated DUI, driving without ignition interlock, driving during suspension, no valid registration, and no proof of insurance.
"The investigation indicates that a 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle was westbound on W. Center Rd, approaching 140th intersection. A 2004 Nissan 350Z was eastbound and turned to go northbound onto 140th. The Kawasaki struck the passenger side of the Nissan. The Nissan fled northbound from the crash scene," a press release said.
Numerous witnesses gave officers a description of the vehicle and driver. In the Harvey Oaks subdivision, near 151st and Shirley streets, neighbors directed officers to the location of Malone. Police then took him into custody.
Malone "appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. He was transported to Douglas County Corrections where an drug evaluation was conducted which indicated impairment," a press release said.
According to Nebraska Courts, this is not the first DUI offense Malone has received.
