Colorado Springs, CO : Truck driver injured after crashing into police vehicles in Fremont County on Thursday, February 2nd 2017
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Winter weather conditions may have been a factor in a crash that left a truck driver seriously injured and two law enforcement vehicles damaged, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis.
The crash on Highway 50 at Highway 67 was called in about 8:30 a.m. after the truck driver collided with Fremont County Sheriff's Office and Florence Police Department vehicles.
The driver of the box truck - a man - suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, Lewis said.
No officers were injured because they were out of their vehicles at the time of the crash, Lewis said. The officers had been assisting State Patrol with an earlier crash, Gazette news partner KKTV reported. The truck collided with the Sheriff's Office vehicle, which in turn hit the Police Department vehicle.
There was a minor haz-mat issue when diesel fuel began to leak from the truck's saddle tank, but it was cleaned up quickly, Lewis said. Perishable food items that the truck was carrying also spilled out, but were cleaned up.
The use of drugs or alcohol is not being considered as a factor in the crash, Lewis said.
