Sacramento,CA : Pedestrian struck and killed on Hwy 138 Monday evening ID’d on October, Monday 9th 2017

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 138 late Monday evening, authorities said.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Division officials said Melvin Boyd Chivas, 51, of Pinon Hills, died after he was struck by a vehicle that night.

According to California Highway Patrol officials, David Garcia, 59, of Fontana, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban east on Highway 138, west of Mountain Road, at approximately 10:41 p.m.

For unknown reasons, Chivas was walking east on Highway 138 in the middle of the eastbound lane. Garcia attempted to stop the Suburban, authorities said, but he was unable to do so before striking Chivas.

“After striking the pedestrian, Garcia immediately stopped his vehicle and called 911,” CHP officials said.
