Aberdeen, WA : Aberdeen driver killed in one-car accident on Tuesday, February 14th 2017
The driver of a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon died after his vehicle left the roadway at Boone and Scott Street in South Aberdeen and struck a power pole shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Aberdeen Police and Fire responded at 4:56 p.m. and found citizens attempting to render aid to the critically injured driver, according to a statement by Lieutenant C.J. Chastain. The vehicle was licensed to an Aberdeen man and the driver died at the scene.
According to Chastain, witnesses stated the vehicle was traveling northbound on Boone Street at a high rate of speed, then veered into the left lane, striking a curb and narrowly missing a large liquid propane tank. The vehicle did strike one of the cement and metal poles protecting the tank and then a concrete footing and metal light pole at the nearby Swanson’s Supermarket before coming to a stop.
The roadway was blocked until just after 8 p.m. and the investigation is ongoing, according to Chastain.
