Opelika, AL : Two killed in Macon County crash, including an Auburn woman on Sunday, January 15th 2017

Two people, an Auburn woman and a Vestavia man, died Sunday after being involved in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 85 in Macon County.

James Patrick Owens, 65, of Vestavia, was driving a 2008 Cadillac DTS when it collided head-on with a 2008 Dodge Charger driven by Lakisha Shepard, 43, of Auburn, before leaving the roadway. The Charger caught fire and both were pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash occurred on Interstate 85 between the 20-21 mile marker, just over a mile from Shorter. The collision closed I-85 south bound for approximately four hours.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
