Quincy , IL : 27- Years old Antjuan Gant killed in Vehicle crash after high-speed chase on Saturday night , March 7th 2015
A Quincy man who police say crashed a vehicle at 9th and Hampshire after a high-speed chase in Quincy Saturday night has died.
According to a news release from the Quincy Police Department, officers observed a red, 2008 Chevrolet Impala at 8th and Ohio at 11:35 p.m. Saturday.
The officers recognized the driver as Antjuan Gant, 24, who they suspected did not have a valid Illinois driver's license.
Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, which is when police say Gant turned north on 9th Street and began to accelerate.
The vehicle continued north to State Street where police say Gant failed to stop at a stop sign, continuing north on 9th Street at a high rate of speed.
Officers say they chose not to pursue the vehicle and deactivated their emergency lights.
Shortly after the failed traffic stop, the Adams County 911 Center received a report of a traffic crash at 9th and Hampshire.
QPD states Gant had lost control of his vehicle, hit a parked car and hit the Arnold, Behrens, Nesbit & Gray P.C. building at 901 Hampshire.
He had suffered serious injuries, so EMS responded and began life-saving measures on Gant who was the only person in the vehicle.
Gant was taken to Blessing Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
