Leesburg, FL : Motorcyclist airlifted after high-speed crash on U.S. Highway 27 near Hermosa Street on Friday afternoon, March 31, 2017

A motorcyclist was airlifted to the hospital Friday afternoon after crashing into a street sign.

According to Lady Lake police, a witness said the man was riding at a high speed north on U.S. Highway 27 near Hermosa Street around 3:30 p.m. He lost control and crashed into an electronic signage board used for announcements that was in the median. The man, who was not identified, was flown to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Sgt. Adam Cronk said the crash was still under investigation.

Police said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
