Millcreek Township, PA : Man seriously injured in five-vehicle Millcreek Township crash at West 12th Street and Peninsula Drive on Friday, 28th December 2018

A man was seriously injured in a five-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Friday night at West 12th Street and Peninsula Drive in Millcreek Township.

The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of West 12th St. Authorities said several vehicles were stopped for a red light at Peninsula Drive when the man, driving a Jeep Patriot, plowed into the back of a pickup truck, which set off the chain reaction of crashes.

Crews from West Lake Fire Department used a Hurst tool to cut off the Jeep's driver's-side door and free the injured man, who was taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment of leg, chest and head injuries, West Lake Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Albrewczynski said.

The man was the lone occupant in the Jeep.

The Jeep and pickup truck received heavy damage. Three other vehicles received minor damage.

Millcreek police are investigating the crash.
