Caldwell, ID : Three people injured in a crash, involving a semi and tow-truck on I-84 near 10th Street and Franklin Road in Caldwell on Wednesday afternoon, April 1, 2015
Eastbound Interstate 84 was shut down for about four hours near exit 27 Wednesday afternoon after a five-vehicle pileup.
A spokesperson for ISP said three people were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
Police say the crash happened at around 11:40 a.m.
Here's what investigators said happened:
David Gonzalez, 24, of Wilder, was eastbound in a 1994 Honda Accord and slowed to a stop because of construction in the area.
Andrew Deckard, 41, of Eagle was also eastbound on the interstate in a 2007 Freightliner tow truck. Deckard failed to stop for traffic and ran into the back of the Accord.
The Impact of the crash pushed the Accord into a 2012 Toyota Sequoia driven by Anthony Galloway, 38, of Anchorage, Alaska.
After the initial impact of Deckard's collision he drove into the left lane, overcorrected and veered in to the right lane, colliding with a 2008 Peterbilt semi pulling a utility trailer. The Peterbilt was driven by Roderick Smith, 65, of Wilder.
Galen Cowger, 26, of Wilder attempted to avoid the collision between the tow truck and the Peterbilt in a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500, but was struck by the tow truck.
All passengers in the Accord were transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise and West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell. At least three of them were injured.
The tow truck driver will be cited, police said.
