Tampa, FL : 49-year-old doctor died in a single-car crash on State Road 580 on Saturday, 21st April 2018

A 49-year-old doctor died early Saturday in a single-car crash on State Road 580.

Kristin Carlin, of New Port Richey, was driving in the eastbound lanes of SR 580 shortly before 6 a.m. when she failed to round a curve and veered off the road near Charles Avenue, a Clearwater Police Department statement said. The car flipped multiple times and the early investigation shows that speeding was a factor, police said.

Carlin was an osteopathic physician affiliated with Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor and Mease Dunedin Hospital.

She loved making up nicknames for her co-workers, said George Boyd, who she called "Scooter" and had worked with her for years.

"She was a relentless patient advocate," Boyd said. "Was tough as nails when it came to her patients and doing the right thing."

About a month ago, she started working night shifts, during which she could spend less time on her feet, he said. He said the crash came after she finished her shift.
