Anderson, IN : No one injureed in a traffic crash involving a school bus and two other vehicles at Scatterfield Road and 10th Street on Monday afternoon, May 9, 2016
No children were injured when a passenger car slammed into the front end of an Anderson school bus stopped at the intersection of 10th Street and South Scatterfield Road Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred about 3:40 p.m. as the bus was carrying 31 students home from Tenth Street Elementary School, said Mary Ann Heineman, assistant director of transportation for Anderson Community Schools.
"I wasn't a witness to the accident ... I was just called to the scene," she said. "My understanding is one car came into the other car and pushed that car under the front end bus."
Dr. Treva Bostic, a behavioral specialist for Anderson schools, literally had a front row seat to the collision. She was stopped right next to the school bus when the accident occurred.
"I'm a little scared," said Bostic, who went to sit in the bus while Anderson police and and firefighters sorted through the circumstances that led to the accident and made sure all the students were OK.
"I was on the other side of the bus when a blue car came across," she said. "It barely missed me by seven or eight inches."
Ken Kocinski, the owner of K.T. Pawn & Loan on the corner of 10th Street and Scatterfield Road, didn't witness the accident but heard the crash and ran outside to check on whether there were any serious injuries before calling 911 emergency dispatch.
Later, he shared surveillance video that shows a white, mid-size sedan southbound on Scatterfield Road turning left onto 10th Street.
When that car reached the middle of the intersection, a blue sedan northbound on Scatterfield hit the white car broadside. That vehicle spun around and the back end struck the bus.
It is impossible from the video footage to tell which vehicle had the right of way, however.
Police at the scene said two occupants in the passenger cars were taken to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
A department spokesman could not be reached for comment Monday evening.
