Lakewood, WA : Frank Richard Ernst, 38, died in single vehicle crash on I-5 near JBLM Main Gate on Thursday, February 19, 2015

A man was killed Thursday when he crashed his car on the ramp from Interstate 5 to the main gate of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Washington State Patrol said.

Frank Richard Ernst, 38, died when just before 1 p.m. his car lost traction on the offramp from southbound I-5, hit a guardrail, spun and hit a tree on the driver’s side of the car, according to the State Patrol.

He died at the scene.

The State Patrol said Ernst had accelerated to pass another vehicle when he lost control.

Ernst was from Hopkins, South Carolina, records show.
