Butte County, ID : One person dies in two-vehicle crash at Craters of the Moon on Sunday evening, April 10, 2016

One person died in a two-vehicle crash at Craters of the Moon National Monument in Butte County on Sunday evening, according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office in Arco.

The names of the deceased motorist and the other driver were not immediately released due to the ongoing investigation and pending notification of family, according to a news release.

The accident happened on Highway 20, 26, 93 shortly before 6:43 p.m. Both vehicles involved were traveling east when the crash happened. Speed was likely a factor in the accident, according to the Sheriff's Office.

One driver was treated at the scene by Lost River Ambulance personnel and released. The second driver was treated and flown by helicopter to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where he later died.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Idaho State Police, Lost River Ambulance, Arco Fire Department, Life Flight and personnel from the Idaho Transportation Department.
