Littlefork, MN : International Falls woman dies in crash on U.S. Highway 71 in Koochiching County on Wednesday morning, April 6, 2016

One person died and another was injured Wednesday morning in a head-on crash on an icy U.S. Highway 71 in Koochiching County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the crash happened at about 7:45 a.m. about four miles north of Littlefork. A Mazda Tribute SUV traveling south on Highway 71 crossed the centerline, in what the Patrol said were slippery conditions, and hit a northbound Ford pickup truck head-on.

The driver of the SUV, a 45-year-old woman from International Falls, died at the scene. Her name was not immediately released pending notification of family.

The driver of the pickup truck, Michele Ziemba, 46, of Littlefork, was transported to Rainy Lake Medical Center in International Falls with what the Patrol said were non-life-threatening injuries
