QUEENSBURY, NY : Driver identified in rollover crash after chase on Friday, September 15th 2017
The second of two chases with police in a span of 8 hours Friday did not end well for a local man when he sideswiped a van and rolled his car onto its roof, police said.
The driver, Joshua R. Grenier, 26, of Schuylerville, was fleeing from police on Dixon Road around 5 p.m. when he collided with a minivan at the intersection with Old Forge Road, sending the black Volkswagen sedan he was driving across a lawn.
It went through shrubs and hit an embankment and became airborne, landing on its roof off Hidden Hills Drive.
Grenier tried to flee on foot, but Warren County sheriff’s Officer Terry Combs got to the scene as he exited the car, police said. He refused medical attention at the crash scene, but was later taken to Glens Falls Hospital for a leg injury and remained there late Friday.
The Sheriff’s Office said children in the van were evaluated for possible injuries. One passenger sustained a minor wrist injury. No other injuries were reported.
Grenier was being sought by police because of a high-speed pursuit in Queensbury earlier in the day, when he fled from State Police on Quaker and Aviation roads before getting to the Northway, hitting a reported 110 mph as he fled. Police terminated the pursuit at that point.
Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Stockdale said Combs had terminated the pursuit as well, but arrived at the crash scene moments later as he looked for the vehicle.
Grenier told police he fled because he was worried about losing a vehicle he needed for work if he got pulled over, Stockdale said. The car had switched license plates on it.
Police said Grenier will face charges for both chases and the crash, but the charges weren't identified late Friday. Part of Dixon Road was closed for more than an hour by the crash.
