OKLAHOMA CITY, OK : Four-vehicle crash in S.W. Oklahoma City sends two people to hospital with severe injuries on Thursday, October 6th, 2016
A tragic car accident in southwest Oklahoma City left two people in critical condition Thursday morning.
"It's a big scene. It's a very involved crash, so it's going to take a while until we have answers to a lot of our questions," said MSgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Dept.Police said a driver in a pickup truck was heading east on S.W. 44th.
He stopped to make a left hand turn when he was rear ended by a car.
The two drivers, 47-year-old Robert Joseph and 19-year-old Nicholas Hitchcock, were outside of their vehicles, exchanging information when a driver of a Toyota Tundra smashed into them.
The crash shoved the two vehicles into oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision with a fourth car.
"Unfortunately, when this head on collision happened, the two drivers who were standing outside and talking were also struck by vehicles," Knight said.
Joseph and Hitchcock were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The other two drivers suffered minor injuries.
Police want to remind drivers about dangers on the road.
"The best thing you can do, if your car is drivable: pull it off the roadway, get off the roadway and over to the side. If you're going to get out and talk to someone about the crash, make sure you step off the roadway," Knight said.
Police on scene told our crews they don’t believe drugs or alcohol played factors in any these crashes.
