Colo, IA : Zearing man killed in a crash on Highway 65 near Colo on Tuesday, March 1, 2016

A Zearing man was killed in a crash near Colo Tuesday.

The crash was reported at the intersection of 190th Street and Highway 65 about 4:20 p.m.

Story County Sheriff's Office reported that a car driven by Asher David Oakes, 91, of Zearing, was traveling east on 190th and stopped at a stop sign before pulling onto Highway 65 northbound.

Authorities said Oakes failed to yield to a southbound semi and his car was hit on the driver's side. The semi was driven by Aleksandar P. Iliev, 32, of Illinois.

Oakes was taken first to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames and then to Mercy Medical Center, but he died from his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
