Stroudsburg, PA : 2 teens flown to hospitals after Pocono Twp. crash on Friday, 12th August, 2016
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania
Two teenagers were airlifted to Lehigh Valley hospitals after crashing their car while trying to flee from police, according to Pocono Township Police Department.
According to a police report, the 17-year-old driver from East Stroudsburg was unconscious after the crash and his 18-year-old passenger, Quran Lopez-Barnes, crawled out of the car after the crash. According to police, one was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital and the other to St. Luke's Hospital.
Police said they were called to a cul-de-sac at 6:45 a.m. Thursday on Park Lane in High Mountain Estates in Pocono Township for a suspicious vehicle (a black Nissan Maxima) and it was an ongoing problem.
Police said when they arrived there were two people in the Maxima asleep and a marijuana grinder with a small amount of marijuana and pipe could be seen on the center console.
Police woke the two individuals and the driver handed the marijuana items to an officer when directed to do so, according to police.
Police said the driver gave a name and information that eventually turned out to be fake, while Lopez-Barnes gave the officer his correct information. When the officer, Cpl. Daniel Kresge, was checking their information, the driver and passenger fled in the Maxima heading toward Hallet Road.
As the Maxima headed down Park Lane, police said two deer came into the road. The Maxima struck one of the deer and went out of control. It went off the roadway, struck a large rock and several trees before ending up on its roof.
Police said that the driver was unconscious when they got to the scene and Lopez-Barnes had crawled out of the car.
