The police have identified Kevin Reilly as the motorcyclist struck Saturday night by an East Providence driver, who is now facing felony drunken driving charges.
Reilly, 51, of East Providence, suffered serious head injuries in the collision, which occurred at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence Lt. Christopher Francesconi said Sunday afternoon.
Reilly was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was in fair condition Sunday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said. Reilly was not wearing a helmet, the police said.
Luis Alicea, 34, was charged with a felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in serious bodily injury, first offense, and driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 or greater, first offense, Francesconi said.
Alicea was driving south on Veterans Memorial Parkway at 7:18 p.m. Saturday and turned left onto Pawtucket Avenue, where he struck the driver of a motorcycle, who was heading north on Pawtucket Avenue, Lt. David Pacheco said.
Alicea declined medical treatment at the scene, but was later taken to the hospital with an undisclosed, non-life threatening condition, Pacheco said.
Alicea was released from the hospital, arraigned at the police station and posted bail Sunday, Francesconi said.
Alicea is due in court for a pre-arraignment conference on June 29.
