PITTSBURGH, PA : Man pleads to DUI, other charges in crash that killed friend on Monday, March 6th 2017
A man has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and other charges in a western Pennsylvania crash that killed his friend.
Nineteen-year-old Christopher Beck also pleaded guilty in Allegheny County Court to reckless endangering, corruption of minors and evidence-tampering. As part of the plea, the most serious charge of homicide by vehicle while DUI was withdrawn.
Authorities said Beck lost control of his car and crashed into a mailbox, a tree and a fire hydrant in May in Bethel Park. Sixteen-year-old Shane Phillips was killed.
Another friend in the vehicle who survived testified at a preliminary hearing last fall that the car hit speeds of 90 to 100 mph before going out of control.
