Hazel Dell, WA : Police chase ends with crash on Wednesday afternoon July 30th 2014
After 90 minutes of driving erratically around the county and evading police, a sport utility vehicle crashed into a car in Hazel Dell, injuring one woman. The three people in the SUV were arrested.
The incident began in the parking lot of the Safeway in Orchards off Northeast 76th Street, where someone reported a verbal disturbance at 1:18 p.m. When a Clark County sheriff’s deputy arrived, the individuals got back into the SUV and took off, said agency spokesman Sgt. Fred Neiman. As the vehicle drove recklessly through several cities in the county, officers tried multiple times to pull it over, he said.
Neiman said the SUV drove to Battle Ground, where it evaded Battle Ground police, and then got on Interstate 5 south, where Washington State Patrol troopers tried to pull over the vehicle. Sometime during the trip, the SUV also went to Ridgefield.
Around 2:45 p.m., the SUV crashed into a black Toyota Scion on Northeast 99th Street just west of Hazel Dell Avenue, Neiman said. The woman in that vehicle was injured and transported to a local hospital.
The SUV’s driver, Thomas Brummer, 31, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of eluding police. The two passengers both ran from the crash site and were found by police. Amos Higgins, 30, was transported to a local hospital after complaining of back pain and then booked into jail on an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant. Jessica Robles, 19, was booked into jail for allegedly possessing methamphetamine.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
