Palm City, FL : One person killed in rollover crash near entrance to turnpike in Palm City on Friday, April 8, 2016

One person died Friday after a single-vehicle crash at Southwest Martin Downs Boulevard and Southwest Martin Highway, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Martin County Fire Rescue crews were called at 7:25 a.m. to a rollover crash at the entrance to Florida's Turnpike at the intersection, said Doug Killane, fire rescue spokesman.

Killane said one person, whose identity was not immediately clear, was taken by ground ambulance to Martin Medical Center in Stuart.

The crash involved a sport utility vehicle that was traveling east on Southwest Martin Highway by the intersection, said FHP Cpl. Garrett Shuman.

"We believe the person had a medical condition and according to the witnesses ... made an abrupt turn to the right," Shuman said.

The SUV crashed into a large traffic light pole by the turnpike entrance, Shuman said.

"The way he hit the pole was enough to tip (the SUV) over," he said.

Shuman said the person who died was a man, but his identity was not immediately released.
