OTTUMWA, IA : Centerville woman injured in Ottumwa accident on Sunday, October, 15th 2017
The Iowa State Patrol has published a crash report showing that one person injured Saturday in a car accident on Highway 34.
Vikki Hunt, 67 of Centerville, was transported by ambulance to Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, Hunt’s Toyota was traveling west on Highway 34 near the area of the 183 mile marker (so coming from the direction of Fairfield entering Ottumwa city limits). In the meantime, an SUV was on the other side of the highway heading east.
According to the state patrol, Hunt’s Toyota lost traction and began to hydroplane, spinning into the eastbound lane of traffic. The SUV couldn’t stop in time; it struck the car “broadside” and brought both vehicles to a halt on the highway.
The National Weather Service report issued five minutes before the accident listed “Thunderstorm in vicinity, light rain, fog/mist” thought by that time Saturday, more than an inch of rain had fallen in less than eight hours.
State police say the accident remains under investigation.
