One man was injured in a one-vehicle accident in Emporia early Wednesday morning.

According to Emporia Police Sergeant Lisa Sage, a male victim was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional health after a crash in the 300 Block of South Cottonwood Street. The wreck happened at about 2:15 a.m. and, according to preliminary reports, was caused when a Ford pickup truck ran through the 'T' intersection at Norton Avenue and Cottonwood while traveling eastbound on Norton.

"The truck jumped the curb and struck a tree," Sage said.

The male driver was taken to the hospital with an injury to his leg while a female passenger was treated and released at the scene. The truck was towed from the scene.

Further details, such as names of the occupants and any possible charges, are pending investigation by the Emporia Police Department, according to Sage.
